Accessibility
This site is a public-records publication, and a public record is no use to anyone who cannot read it. This page states plainly what we test, what we found, and what is still wrong.
Statement published 13 September 2026 · Covers Vol. 1, No. 2
1. The standard we aim at
The South Florida Business Wire aims to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2, Level AA. Our current status is partially conformant: the automated evidence is clean, but automated evidence is not the whole picture, and the gaps are named in section 3 rather than hidden.
2. What we actually tested, and when
On 13 September 2026 we ran the axe-core accessibility engine over 15 pages covering every distinct page template on this site — the front page, the full issue index, an individual filing page, a city page, the archive, the city index, the newsletter, the claim and removal forms, the business-owners page, the data notes, privacy, terms, this page and the 404 page. That run reported zero violations: no WCAG 2.2 Level A or AA failures, and no best-practice advisories either.
The site is also built to work without JavaScript, without a mouse and without its web fonts: every page is server-rendered static HTML, every control is a native element, and a “Skip to content” link is the first focusable item on every page.
A clean automated run is not a clean bill of health. Tools like axe-core reliably catch somewhere between a third and a half of real accessibility barriers. They cannot judge whether alternative text is meaningful, whether a reading order makes sense, or whether a form is understandable under pressure. We have not commissioned an audit by people who use assistive technology daily, and until we do, this statement claims only what the evidence supports.
3. Known limitations
These are the things we know are imperfect today:
- Filing tables are wide. The full issue index is a dense data table. On a narrow screen it scrolls sideways, which is workable but unpleasant with a screen magnifier. Every row is also published in the CSV and JSON downloads linked in the footer, which are easier to handle in any assistive tool.
- Category labels are our own judgement. The category on each filing is assigned by us, not taken from the state record. It is a navigation aid, not an authoritative classification.
- Third-party form delivery. The claim, removal and newsletter forms submit through FormSubmit. We control the form markup and its error messages; we do not control that service’s own pages.
- No assistive-technology user audit yet. See section 2.
4. Reporting a barrier, and what happens next
If any part of this site is unusable for you, tell us and we will fix it. You do not need the technical name for the problem — “I could not read the filings on my phone” is a complete and useful report.
Email alexalligan@suncoastdigital.us or call or text (954) 952-3611. We aim to acknowledge within two business days and to tell you either when it is fixed or why it will take longer.
If you need a listing, an issue or the underlying data in another format — large print, plain text, or read aloud over the phone — ask, and we will provide it at no cost.
5. Removals are always free and always easy
Accessibility and privacy overlap here: if the problem is that a page about you exists at all, the removal form takes it down within two business days, with no account, no proof of ownership and no reason required. If the form itself is a barrier, phone or email using the details above and we will do it for you.
